Since today is the day of presentation, i thought i will post 3 new memes up.
The double rainbow , nice boat and Bedroom intruders
Lets start of with double rainbow. The double rainbow was a video uploaded on January 8 by a user called : Hungrybear9562. His real name is Paul Vasquesz, aka Yossemitebear, a professional cage fighter. (wrestling) . It begin to viral all over the internet when Jimmy Kimmel tweet that " this video could be the most funny video i have seen this whole year" . This lead to an internet Phenomenon all over the internet. Pictures, parodies and remixes came out in a matter of weeks.

The next meme is Nice boat. It begin in 2chan (the original imageboard) where one part of the Anime "Schooldays" has been censored out by replacing the part of the video with a picture of a boat with classical music behind it. It cause so much rage in 2chan that 4chan(who are trolls) started saying the phrase : nice boat.
Hence nice boat became an internet meme. However it is more popular in japan than in the western countries.
The above video is really what is shown on the cut-scene. Just a boat with 9mins of classical music.
People start using nice boat as a form of sarcasm or basically just to troll a picture. Examples : "Why would anyone want to watch an anime where someone gets stabbed, when they could just sit back and watch this nice boat?" or "Looking at this picture is so boring, i might as well go look at a nice boat. "
But i am sure everyone will agree with me. Nice boat is nice :)
The 3rd and last meme i am bringing up is the bed intruders.
On July 28th 2010, North Alabama 's NBC affiliate newsstation WAFF-48news reported that local police are searching for a man who broke into a home then got into a bed with a woman. The woman, Kelly Dodson woke up to find the intruder in her bed. Her brother, Antoine Dodson rushed to her room and chase the intruder away, but states that he left his fingerprint and clothes behind.
Watch the video of WAFF-48 interviewing Antoine , and figured out why this became a Meme :P
Remixes came shortly after that.
Schmoyoho , the people who autotuned the rainbow song, made another autotune (which actually reached #85 on top 100 billboard list with 30k downloads on itune)

Very informative! I love the videos, great examples of internet meme(s). It's great how such videos can spread like wild fire and create an internet phenomenon... they can bring so much laughter to people who are bored while surfing the net.

ReplyDeleteyou have a very informative site here! i knew internet meme existed, but i have no idea they were called internet meme. it's scary that internet memes can spread so fast and easily, and this just shows us that the internet is a good platform for information to be passed around.

When I first saw the double rainbow song I couldn't stop laughing.. and I didn't actually knew it was called a meme.
So memes are actually forms of entertainment. Just my part of a story, I actually saw a movie using a meme that acts as their credits. This is actually a good way of enticing the audience to stay on and watch the credits instead of them leaving the theatre.
One thing I really want to know is how these memes are being made! If you have the time would you mind showing us?

ReplyDeleteI'm glad you guys enjoyed those memes as much as i did when i first discovered them . Yes, i agree with most of you that Memes are really good way to get rid of boredom. However, the memes i shown are the funny ones. There is alot of memes out there that are mean and hurtful. So watch out for those!
